During our visit to Puerto Rico in 2015, we visited the Ruta de Lechon (Roast Pig Route). This year, we decided to check out the Ruta de Longaniza (Sausage Route).
Unlike the Ruta de Lechon, the Ruta de Longaniza comprised of two different main highways. And, at least two towns host sausage-centric restaurants along the road.
In the town of Orocovis, we checked out La Sombra. We tried a tripleta, a sausage with beef pork and ham, and a povecho, a sausage made with turkey, pork and tocino (bacon). We enjoyed the sausages, which had a nice pop of the skin.
In the town of Morocovis, we checked out Los Amigos. There we had different sausages that was all jamon, all chicken, all spicy pork (the best!), and all beef. I thought the offerings at Los Amigos were juicier, more tender and more flavorful, probably because they were stuffed with more fat. I believe the sausages were not boiled but fried in oil.
Below is a fun short video I created with Mr. Sazy Rock and our friends during our foray into the Ruta de Longaniza. I hope you enjoy it.
Have you visited the Ruta de Lechon or the Ruta de Longaniza?
