restaurant review: the steakhouse at circus circus in las vegas

On a recent trip to Las Vegas, I had a business dinner with four gentlemen at The Steakhouse at Circus Circus. You're probably thinking, "Circus Circus? Really?" Yes, really. I've heard many chatter among steak lovers that Circus Circus has one of the best steaks in the city despite the other fancy options the Las Vegas Strip has to offer. So, we decided to talk shop and eat meat in a place with the word "circus" included in its name.
The Aging Room.

The Scene
The dining area.

Circus Circus is an old casino on the Strip. As the name suggests, the casino's theme is "circus," complete with clown decor. Luckily, The Steakhouse itself does not follow the "circus" theme. Instead, it looks like an old school steakhouse your grandparents probably frequented.

When I entered the restaurant, a dark narrow hallway led us to a view of their own aging room, where plenty of meat were resting or hanging and going through the natural process of breaking down meat tissue. We passed by the kitchen, where we saw many steaks on the grill, as the host led us to our table.

The dining area was not as dark as the hallway. There were plenty of booths where couples snuggled or groups got comfortable. I would not have been surprised if Frank Sinatra walked in the room and made himself comfortable.

The Food

My dining companions and I went there to eat steak. So, we didn't really order anything else. For five people, we decided to share two porterhouse steaks and two ribeyes.

The Porterhouse.

Both steaks were perfectly cooked - medium rare with a nice char. The ribeye steaks were also full of fatty flavor. There was one minor flaw in the steaks, however. I thought they were under seasoned. Otherwise, the quality of the meat and the cooking were outstanding.

The Ribeye.

The steaks came with a salad, which were unremarkable. The asparagus spears also did not stand out because I don't remember how they tasted.

The Service

While the servers and the bussers were polite and friendly, I was a bit annoyed that all the gentlemen at my table each got a plate with a steak and I, the only female, got nothing but a few spears of asparagus. Although five of us were sharing four steaks, I expected those steaks to be placed in the middle of the table. To add insult to injury, when the server poured the wine, my glass received half the amount of my companions.

The Price

I'm having a hard time remembering the price but I have a picture of the menu below. Hopefully, it will give you a sense of what our steaks cost.

The Verdict

We made our reservation via opentable.com on the same day we dined. If you wish, you may call (707) 794-3767 to book a table.

I liked the old school feel of the place and enjoyed the steaks (with a bit of salt added). But, I am a bit annoyed about the service. I don't know if I will be back.

Have you dined at The Steakhouse at Circus Circus? What did you think?
