our favorite places to drink in los angeles

(Los Angeles, CA).  It is obvious from our handles that martinikitty and sazy rock (sazerac, geddit?) love to drink.  dentite also imbibes but she is what we lovingly call a "lightweight" but she's always game for joining us when we wish to try out new bars and restaurants around town.   So, where do the drinkers of the group like to drink when we are in our hometown - see below and find out!

Musso & Frank Grill is an old hollywood institution - serving up drink and food in hollywood since 1919.  and since 1919 it has continuously served the best martinis in town.  The food may not be great, but if you want a taste of old hollywood, then come here and spend a leisurely evening with a martini and steak and strike up a conversation with the bartenders who've worked there for decades and they will regale you with wonderful tales from a bygone era.  I (martinikitty) normally don't drink gin, but this is the only place in town I will enjoy a classic gin martini.  it's simply the best.

Varnish is a speakeasy bar in downtown los angeles located inside Cole's (french dip restaurant).  It reminds us of Milk & Honey in New York, but more casual and less difficult to get into.  The vibe is always easy and cool and the cocktails are always superb. the bee's knees are quite good here.

Oldfield's is a small cocktail bar in Culver City/the Westside area. They make delicious martinis and sazeracs.  The cocktails do not come cheap but their happy hours are affordable. Besides, one should not expect properly made drinks with the best ingredients to be super cheap.

Trader Vic's is a fun place for drinking tiki bar cocktails like the mai tai.  Yes, it is a bit kitschy but that is why we like it.

Seven Grand Bar is a whiskey bar in downtown Los Angeles.  Customized whiskey flights. Need I say more?

Father's Office has a lot of craft beers from around the world to choose from.  It also helps that the Father's Office Burger is considered to be one of the best burgers in town.  (beef with blue cheese, arugula and some sort of teriyaki like sauce).  However, there are absolutely no substitutions. But do not despair, it is delicious. Oh yeah, you can't ask for catsup either.  Either way, it's hard to beat a good beer and burger combo.  They also serve great cocktails.

City Tavern is also a fun pub for beer lovers.  Enjoy a variety of beers in small, medium and growler sizes.

Dominicks is where i (martinikitty) go to get my manhattan fix.  it's also where i go for a taste of New Orleans cuisine (think crawfish boil), but oddly enough they also have a delicious spaghetti and meatballs.

We hope to see you in one of these places if you are in town.  Just remember to drink responsibly - don't drink and drive.  Take a taxi or use uber or have a designated driver (or as we like to call her, dentite).
