shopping for omorovicza skincare in budapest (and getting an amazing facial)!

(Budapest, Hungary).  Before I visit any new place, I always try to do a little bit of research on the local shopping - i.e., crafts or specialty items unique to the area.  While Hungary is known for things such as paprika, lace, and folk art - I wasn't particularly interested in such items.  The most famous wine in the region is the sweet dessert wine (Tokaji Aszu) and I definitely planned to get some of that - but what really interested me was trying out some skincare - namely the Omorovicza skincare line which is based on the "healing waters of Budapest".  Although it is available in the U.S., I was hoping to get it cheaper from the source.

Fortunately I didn't have to go far since I found an Omorovicza spa on Andrassy Avenue - very close to where I was staying.  The instant I had a spare moment I popped in and bought the two items I kept seeing on youtube (yes "youtube did make me buy it")... the Thermal Cleansing Balm and the Queen of Hungary Mist.  Then on my path to paying (which was about 5 steps away) I got sidetracked by the perfume - Bagatelle de Gabrielle - and had to get that too.  It's rather difficult for me to find a perfume that I like which will last on me more than 20 minutes as my body has the magical ability of making perfume disappear.  However, this magical brew smelled amazing and lingered on for several hours!

And as an added bonus, the store clerk told me that because I spent more than $200 USD, I could get a complimentary facial so I booked one for the following day.  I had expected it to be a mini-facial, but was surprised when I was provided with an hour long deep-cleansing facial... and it was literally one of the best facials I've ever had in my entire life, complete with cleansing, masks, extractions, and a neck and hand massage.  The facialist even removed some milia for me that was developing on my forehead.  Her fingers were like dancing fairies on my face.

It was a truly relaxing experience.  I'm sure I would have had to spend over $200 for a similar facial in Los Angeles so overall this was quite a bargain.  Of course, after the facial, I couldn't help but purchase the Ultramoor Mud Mask.  So for about $400, I received the equivalent of about $500+ worth of product and an amazing facial - Score!

If you love skincare and you are in Budapest for more than a couple of days, I would highly recommend going to Omorovicza and trying out some treatments.  I can't wait to use the products and see just how healing the waters of Budapest can be!

If you ever get a chance to visit, note that you have to ring the doorbell to enter.  Don't be an idiot like me, pulling on the door repeatedly wondering why no one was working during store hours...
