There are plenty of iconic dishes in London to choose from. Last week, I wrote about the Roasted Bone Marrow and Parsley Salad from St. John. Today, I submit that the Tandoori Lamb Chops at Tayyabs is pretty iconic as well.
Tayyabs is named after the last name of the owners of a Punjabi restaurant in the Whitechapel area of Greater London. Although it is very near Brick Lane, which is known for South Asian restaurants, Tayyabs is the better option because the food is just amazing (and affordable).
Opened in 1972, Tayyabs have been serving the iconic Tandoori Lamb Chops since the beginning. And, diners have been lining up to this place every single time I have visited. Luckily, Tayyabs now accept reservations online.
A few years ago, during a conversation with one of the owners, we were told that they prepare more than 600 pounds of lamb chops a week. They probably serve more now.
Served sizzling hot as an appetizer, the lamb chops could just as easily be eaten as a main dish. I have, in fact, ordered two orders of this dish as my appetizer and my main dish. It's that good.
If you are in London, go to Tayyabs and order this dish. It has been on my top favorite dishes for quite some time now.
