have you ever wondered where the buffalo wing was invented?

Have you ever wondered where the Buffalo Wing was invented?
The Home of the Original Buffalo Wing.

Teressa Bellissimo, a proprietor of The Anchor Bar, a restaurant in the city of Buffalo in upstate New York, claims to have invented the ever so present dish in bars across the United States in 1964. I must admit that the deep fried crunchy chicken wings smothered in spicy sauce and accompanied by ranch or blue cheese dressing has always been something Mr. Sazy Rock and I almost always order when we are at a bar. So, during a trip to the area, Mr. SR and I decided to try the dish where it was invented.

Let me say that it was absolutely worth the trek.

The Anchor Bar appeared to be a mecca for wing lovers. The place was full of people. Luckily, the place was also large and decorated with a lot of kitschy things.

The menu was also large but we were only there for the wings. More importantly, it told the story of how the wings were invented. I took the picture so you can read how they described the "origin story" of the Buffalo Wing. But, essentially, it was invented when Ms. Bellissimo's son and his friends stopped by feeling hungry and she decided to fry up the chicken wings she had on hand instead of putting the wings to be used in soup. So, now you know that it has nothing to do with a bovine buffalo having wings.

The wings came in buckets of 10, 20 and 50. Of course, we ordered 50. Because, why not?

The wings were tasty but I can't say they were spectacular. But, they definitely satisfied our very hungry belly and our curiosity. I do recommend a stop if you ever find yourself anywhere near Buffalo, NY.

Have you ever eaten a dish where it was invented?
